An anti-lock-braking system, or ABS, prevents the wheels of a vehicle from locking while braking.

ABS allows the driver to maintain steering control when braking heavily by keeping the wheels from skidding, and can shorten braking distances.

An ABS system can control two wheel, or four, depending on the car make and model.

Allows the driver to raise or lower the body of the vehicle to tackle different road conditions.

For example, the vehicle height will be increased for off- road driving, and decreased for ease of entry.

A computer controlled suspension system that uses powered acutators instead of spring and shock absorbers.

An actuator positions a car's wheels in the optimum position to absorb road shock caused by passage over an irregular road surface, thus improving the comfort of the ride.
Available in some vehicles, adaptive cruise control maintains set speed while monitoring the position of the vehicle in front and adjusting speed accordingly.

A safety device stored in the vehicle that deploys an inflatable cushion to protect a vehicle occupant during a crash. Most commonly found in the front drivers seat and the passenger seat, they can also be found in the doors of a vehicle.

Part of the climate control system, the air quality sensor detects pollution levels in the air.

If the pollution levels rise too high, the climate control system switches to recirculated air and prevents the polluted air from degrading the air quality in the car.

A four-wheeled vehicle with a drivetrain that allows all four wheels to receive torque from the engine simultaneously.

Commonly called 4WD, or 4x4 ("four by four").

Wheels that are made of material lighter than the usual steel wheel, such as an alloy of magnesium or aluminium. Lighter wheels improve the steering and speed of the car.

A safety system that activates an audible alarm when entry is attempted in a locked vehicle.
Bracing beams placed in the side doors of a vehicle to protect the occupants in the event of a side collision.

A transmission algorithm designed to predict the shift regime during a drive, according to road conditions and driver behaviour.
The ratio between the rotation of the drive shaft and the driven wheel.
