Choosing A Green Vehicle

Deciding to purchase a green vehicle can not only have a positive effect on the environment, but also you financially due to lower ongoing vehicle operating costs normally associated with these vehicles.

Purchasing a green vehicle for the first time can seem like a daunting task. There are many personal and environmental considerations which you need to take into account before making your final choice. Buying a new vehicle is a major financial investment, so it’s important to ensure that your next vehicle satisfies all of your individual needs.

The below checklist will assist you in evaluating which green car is right for you.

Bullet Point Assess your needs carefully. What are your day to day transport requirements? This includes both passengers and cargo capabilities.
Bullet Point List the features that you want included in the vehicle. Categorise these into 'must haves' and 'nice to have, but not necessary'.
Bullet Point Do you need to take the vehicle off road, or does it need to tow a load from time to time?
Bullet Point Refer to AHG's green vehicle directory or visit the governments green vehicle guide for a complete list of vehicles and their environmental impact.
Bullet Point Compare the ongoing fuel cost of the green vehicles you're considering. A more expensive car may save you substantially more in the long term
Bullet Point Safety. Don't forget to check the available safety features of the vehicle(s) that you're considering purchasing. The AHG Glossary can help.
Bullet Point Fuel type. Each fuel type has its own pro's and cons. Find out the differences between the available fuel types.
